Trying to silence us? You’re going to hear us even louder

Trying to silence us? Sorry Peter, sorry Michael and Dermot,  you’re all going to hear us even louder…

Celtic yesterday once again showed their contempt towards the supporters by snubbing fan media for the unveiling of Wilfried Nancy at Lennoxtown with less than two hours notice…

Celtic end fan media era

The Celtic Star was scheduled to appear as one of two outlets at the manager’s pre-match media conference ahead of the game against Hearts. This was decided by the club in the summer before a ball was kicked as they issued the participating fan media sites with the club’s rota.

Brendan Rodgers

So if it was Brendan Rodgers or Martin O’Neill it was the same but it turned out to be Wilfried Nancy with this scheduled pre-match media conference doubling up as the new manager’s unveiling.

So The Celtic Star were one of two fan media outlets to be denied access by the Celtic custodians, in yet another example of the massive chasm that exists between them and the ordinary supporter. In true Celtic fashion the snub was made a mere few hours before the manager’s introduction was taking place.

First it was the Celtic Fans Collective, and then Green Brigade

First it was the Celtic Fans Collective, and then Green Brigade who were hastily shunned by the club, now it’s the Celtic fan media who are the latest to be sine die by Peter Lawwell, Michael Nicholson and their boardroom cronies. Or maybe it was an order from Dermot Desmond after his boy took some stick for that perfectly unreasonable attack on the Celtic support at the AGM that has been widely criticised across Celtic fan media.

Fan Media is now one of the most popular sources for the Celtic support to keep up to date with the goings on at their club, due to the distrust in the SMSM. By taking this stance, they have made the gaping gap between the club and the supporters all that more wider.

Make no mistake, this is in my view a move that is all down to our chairman who is reeling from the much deserved flak that is consistently being directed towards him and his chums that hold all the power in the corridors of Celtic Park.

Does he think by trying to silence the fan media means that it’s all going to magically disappear? Well, he’s in for some serious disappointment if he believes that, if anything it will made the backlash all the worse. This latest move isn’t going to silence The Celtic Star or the rest of the fan media, if anything you will hear us even louder.

Pater Lawwell

The Celtic Star has always been a moderate voice in the Celtic support but it will never be a propaganda tool for the Celtic Chairman, the way he traditionally likes his quick fan media sites to operate.

Controlling the messenger allows him to control the message, like the underhand campaign that was waged since the Scottish Cup Final against Brendan Rodgers on the Chairman’s favourite blog, or the Celtic Insider backstabbing in The Scottish Sun against a manager who who 11 trophies from 13 at Celtic – that alone merited more respect but it never came.

Even after Brendan ‘resigned’ their hostility poured out as the official club website posted that disgraceful and unnecessary rant against Rodgers.

Wilfried Nancy

The Celtic Star still covered Wilfried Nancy’s short media conference yesterday, despite not being there. The Celtic Star didn’t break our agreement with the club, Celtic broke it by banning The Celtic Star at 11.31am yesterday before the lunchtime media conferences.

Wilfried Nancy will have our support tomorrow. Let’s see if he can deliver. Michael Nicholson admitted he was on the Celtic Board’s radar BEFORE Brendan Rodgers ‘resigned’ so Nancy was their number one choice. He may well be the man who can get them out of a hole of their own digging. We shall see.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. The Celtic Star’s output over recent weeks has lacked objectivity and balance.
Some of the vitriol I’ve read has been appalling.

It’s interesting to see the number of adverts for books and merchandise on this site. Maybe this is simply a commercial organisation, making a living by pedaling a narrative?

Why not cover both sides of the story?

Why not ask the Collective what solutions they have in mind?

How do we increase revenue and compete with the the top 5 leagues?

    Why not provide balance?

If some attempt was made to provide balance rather than hype, I’d have more sympathy for the crocodile tears.

    • Can you point us in the direction of this output, or the vitriol you’ve read (on here) that’s appalled you?

There has been no merchandise adverts on the site, we don’t do merchandise. We do publish high quality Celtic books and currently are promoting David Potter’s final book with a view to making a decent payment to his widow, for which we will make no apology to you.

We have covered both sides of the story, everything Celtic has said in their supporters update. Every Dermot Desmond wrote about Brendan and his son read out at the AGM has been featured on The Celtic Star.

The collective asked some questions that Celtic didn’t want to answer. The Collective represents all the major Celtic supporters associations.

There are no tears at this end, crocodile or otherwise. Celtic get more out of the relationship that we do – all I ever asked then for was a photo pass – which we can get at every other ground in the Scottish Premiership except Celtic Park – and that has been the position for years. They never say no. They just don’t answer us.

I suspect that it’s podcast coverage that they are unhappy with but resorted to collective punishment and not for the first time during this sorry saga.

Finally, we always welcome contributions from readers so if you want to formulate your own argument on this or anything else pleas feel free to do so.
