Team’s Up – Askou names Motherwell XI for Celtic clash

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has named his team for this afternoon’s Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic. The Dane has had Motherwell playing some impressive football since taking over at Fir Park.

Motherwell were narrowly beaten at Celtic Park after a late goal from Daizen Maeda. Wilfried Nancy will be hoping that his side can get the win in order to pull level with league leaders Hearts.

Askou has impressed with his possession based style and it appears that there’s no recognised striker in the starting XI.

Motherwell: Ward, Koutroumbis, McGinn, O’Donnell, Sparrow, Fadinger, Watt, Priestman, Slattery, Just, Said.

Subs: Connelly, Gordon, Balmer, Stamatelopoulos, Osong, Ross, McAllister, Longelo, Hendry.

The Well were unfortunate not to get a point at Ibrox after they were denied a seemingly nailed on penalty in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Nancy has named his team with three changes from the side that beat Livingston. Kasper Schmeichel returns to the side with Reo Hatate, Liam Scales and Paulo Bernardo starting.

Schmeichel, Ralston, Trusty, Scales, Yang, McGregor, Nygren, Bernardo, Tierney, Hatate, Maeda.

Subs: Sinisalo, Simpson-Pusey, McCowan, Yamada, Kenny, Engels, Murray, Forrest, Donovan.

  1. We have no chance to retain the title this year. We’ll done Motherwell great team effort tonight. Celtic need to plan now for next season as this one is over. I’m not looking forward to the 3rd of January
