The 26-year-old winger – who plays for Red Bull Bragantino – has been capped for Uruguay twice and enjoyed a productive 2025 campaign in Brazil, contributing four goals and six assists from 34 appearances in all competitions.
Interest from Celtic centres on Laquintana’s ability on the right flank, with Uruguayan journalist Martin Charquero reporting that a deal could be pursued with the window officially opening today.

The Hoops already have Uruguayan representation in the squad through Marcelo Saracchi, although the left-back – currently on loan from Boca Juniors – remains sidelined with a hamstring issue.
Celtic are keen to act swiftly in the market. They are still hopeful of finalising a loan move for Bournemouth right-back Julian Araujo in time for this weekend’s Glasgow Derby with theRangers.

Further targets include Preston North End forward Milutin Osmajic and winger Jocelin Ta Bi, who is currently on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva from Maccabi Netanya, as the club looks to conclude early January business.

In other news, Pat Bonner has offered his assessment of Kasper Schmeichel following another difficult outing for the Celtic goalkeeper on Tuesday night.
The comments come in the aftermath of Celtic’s 2–0 defeat away to Motherwell, a match in which Schmeichel was again at the centre of a costly moment.
Attempting to build play from the back, the Dane surrendered possession to Elijah Just, whose initial attempt was blocked by Callum McGregor before Elliot Watt reacted quickest to convert the rebound.

Bonner has since weighed in on the incident while analysing Schmeichel’s recent performances. “I think he’s struggled a little bit,” Bonner said via BBC Sportsound.
“Sometimes I look at goalkeepers, and when they get the ball, they’re looking for other players around them to give them the angle, give them the opportunity to pass it out.”
“But for me, I’m looking at it – just play it up, play it up to the striker, that’s where the space is. Don’t take that risk when your team is struggling and when they lack confidence and so on. That was a mistake I think he’s made trying to play a ball into someone 25 yards from goal.”
🗣️ “The Celtic players look directionless. The squad is in dire need of major surgery.”
