It was confirmed last week that Celtic FC Women have lost young talent Charlize McFadyen to Queen’s Park, who she played for on loan last season…

18-year-old McFadyen, who plays as a midfielder, made six appearances for QP last season, who got relegated from the top flight after only managing to secure 12 points. She sadly picked up an injury which saw her sidelined for some time, but her new side liked what they saw enough to secure her signature for the upcoming season.
The club is delighted to confirm that Charlize McFadyen has returned to Queen’s Park on a permanent basis, after spending last season here on loan from Celtic.

She made her debut for QP during their game against Spartans, which they managed to claim three points for after a 1-0 victory. She would go on to make her first start in senior football against a top-level opponent, Glasgow City.
Joining Queen’s Park from Celtic FC Women, she said: “I really enjoyed being here last season, so it was a very simple decision to return. My aim is to get back to the levels I was at before my injury, and kick start the new season with a great group of people.
“Despite being on the sidelines, everyone made me feel such a big part of the team, and I’m determined to repay them with my performances on the pitch.”

There is no doubt that McFadyen will be a player who we may live to regret moving on, as she has performed well enough in the academy to have already picked up some club awards. Last year, she won the U18s Player of the Year for Celtic, and has made an impact at previous clubs she has featured for.
It will be interesting to see how she will fare with Queen’s Park in the SWPL2, especially with the format changes.
As for Celtic, the club have only made one signing, bringing Lisa Robertson back to the club a year after her transfer to Hearts. Robertson signed a two-year contract a year after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Everyone will be looking forward to seeing how the player will fare after her year away from Elena Sadiku’s team, and hopefully, some pre-season games will be announced soon that will let us see the team in action.

As for new signings, Lisa Robertson is the one and only player in the door so far. With the Celtic FC Women manager returning to the club’s pre-season this week after her time working for Swedish television at the Women’s Euros, we can only hope that there are more coming in to replace the TEN players who have left the club this summer after a truly awful campaign last season where Celtic only just managed to secure FOURTH spot in the SWPL1.

Thank you Jessica Elliot for the article and your coverage is considerably better than the men who stepped in often last season to cover The Ghirls as you seemed less often to do articles at times last season. You have a much better knowledge and handle and feeling for the Women’s game.
Not sure if Charlize McFadyen would have had a role in the 1st team this season as she wasn’t one of the few promoted to the 1st team squad (a couple of whom look very good potentially). Also it may have been interesting to know where Charlize McFadyen saw her career going as playing for Queens Park is part time and at 18 she may well be looking at university/college to gain qualifications to get life security as it is so hard to make a living as a full time pro player in SWPL. she then has the option to like Emma Lawton come back with a degree and decide to commit 100% to be a full timer.
I like your articles but it would be great to see a few articles that are positive looking at we have at the club rather than constant criticism of Sadiku and the club and the players. We still have in the squad several current internationals and several recent internationals and the player voted best player in SWPL Emma Lawton and several age level internationals and a few who were award winners in USA college soccer.
We did lose 10 players and it will be interesting where the 3 Americans end up (my guess back home in 1 of the 2 strong leagues there) and where is any the others end up playing and at what level. Many of those who left had poor seasons/half seasons in 2024/25 and only Kelsey Daugherty of the 10 who left played to their potential in 24/25 with only the odd good game from LAC or Murphy Agnew or Celya Barclais and a couple Kit Loferski and Luana Munoz were always injured and the others were poor
It would be great if the fans and Celtic sites started to get behind Elena Sadiku who for me has been battling hard to drag Celtic FC Women into modern times in terms of backroom staff and technology and player salaries/contracts. For me it is odd that when things dipped February onwards (we were equal top then) all the blame was put on Sadiku when in fact it could equally be the 10 who were about to leave were very unsettled and worried about their futures and bank balances and just needed the finance people to tell them were they staying or going rather than all of them seeming to be in limbo or negotiations starting too late. The speed of Abi Harrison signing at GCW suggests she had already got a deal and never intended to stay as is back with old mates from Scotland squad times who are now there as coaches and players
Especially on a news site that is tailored to Celtic FC Women fans some positivity and an upbeat feel would be great as I personally feel there is a good core squad there especially if Chloe Craig comes back fully fit and Amy Gallacher and Kelly Clark regain their form of past seasons (both very poor last season) and we had a strong defender or 2 (maybe the high quality CB lined up by Sadiku to replace Caitlin Hayes only for the money people to block it at last minute) and creative/goals scoring midfielder and a partner striker who scores lots alongside Noonan
Thank you for your articles and coverage and hopefully you will be the permanent Ghirls correspondent this season rather than off and on
