Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill sat down with Si Ferry for a chat about his career as the Irishman promotes his autobiography.
As a player, O’Neill was part of the fabulous Brian Clough side that won the European Cup back to back in 1979 and 1980. The 70-year-old legend played 371 games for Forest and was voted into the club’s greatest-ever 11 back in 2016.
After his playing career O’Neill started in management at Wycombe and succeeded in getting them promoted into the English Football League.
He moved to Leicester City and won the League Cup there before taking the Celtic job in 2000. He led Celtic to three league titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup – and memorably all the way to the Uefa Cup Final in Seville in May 2003.
Following his departure from Celtic in 2005, O’Neill had successful spells with Aston Villa, Sunderland and Ireland. However his most recent role, a return to Forest, didn’t work out well.
