Report: Ange Postecoglou linked with sensational Celtic return

Ange Postecoglou has been linked with a sensational return to Celtic. The Australian manager left Celtic two years ago to take over at Tottenham Hotspur but left the role in the summer despite winning the Europa League.

As per a report from The Sun, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is a top target for Nottingham Forest should they sack Nuno Espírito Santo. However, the report states that Ange is also a target for Forest given his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis but the report states that he could return to Celtic and replace Rodgers.

This feels unlikely in two parts – Rodgers stated on Friday that he had no intention to leave the club while Ange is unlikely to want to risk his reputation at Celtic. Ange spent two successful seasons at Celtic, winning five trophies. The next thing that fans had been hoping for was progression in Europe but a move to Spurs transpired.

Celtic have enjoyed success since Brendan Rodgers’ returned to the club, winning four trophies in two seasons as well as making strides in Europe. The latter is in the balance for this season with Celtic’s Champions League status depending on the progress of the second leg against Kairat Almaty.

You would potentially expect Ange to be more likely than Brendan to takeover at the City Ground if Forest decide to make a change in the dugout. Jose Mourinho is another name linked with the job but it appears to be that the Celtic boss will be linked with the vacancy over the next few days.

    • Em that sounds wrong in 2 parts…he wouldn’t risk his reputation coming back to CELTIC!!!Dude he wouldn’t have a reputation if it wasn’t for CELTIC and another thing clown he was lucky to avoid relegation at spurs so I doubt anyone wants to hire him.if CELTIC called he will come running back to paradise…some clown opinion you have

  1. Rodgers will see out his 3 year contract. This is the most ludicrous post on the internet.Stop spreading lies.

  2. More media crap! But I certainly would never want that man back at Celtic again anyway. Untrustworthy.

  3. IF Ange made a return it would be the FIRST time in his career that he has returned to the same club … and as he referred to it as going back with an ex … doubt very much that it would happen … also was he not at loggerheads with the board as he wanted to push through bigger signings that were at odds with their “strategy” … if he was watching how they are short changing Brendan .. and with the history he has with the board .. can you really see him sign up for more of the same ? Think (hope I am wrong) but we may have the next manager currently at the club … in a “pathway” situation if you catch my drift ?

    • Short changing Brendan? This is a guy who blew £20 million last year on 2 players. 1 doesn’t start and the other only starts because there is nobody else to take his place. Although after last night, Idah should be rightfully slapped as 3rd choice CF.

      • Nonsense, Joe – Rodgers didn’t buy those players – the Board did and that’s the job of Nicholson and his team.
Have you not listened to Rodgers lately – it’s obvious he has little say in who is brought to the club and he has enough on his hands coaching the team/individual players so he has no time to be scouting new ones.

        • Ok, let’s look at it this way. If you, as an “elite” coach can have any job you want, why would you take the one in Scotland where you have no control over the players you sign?

    • Ange won’t be back Rodgers will see out his contract and be off “the board will get a yes man and be content to compete with the rangers for the league and cups in the spl and try to get in the champions league or Europa that’s our lot. What do fans expect its business to make money nothing else.

  4. It seems very strange to me to blame Brendan for the recruitment of Idah and Engels. I as many believe he has no say in recruitment. This begs the question who is? Celtic hav brought in the so called master of player recruitment in Teasdale we have still to see anything from him.

There is no doubt that the current squad is much weaker than last seasons with the loss of Kyogo and Kunn. However the board have jeopardised £40 million by lack of quality replacements and have loaded the squad with mediocrity.

It is clear the board. do not have the ambition of the manager or the fans. Their idea of success is a healthy balance sheet and bigger bonuses for themselves. And nothing to do with football at an elite level.

  5. Why would you print anything from this garbage rag. It’s only trying to install worry in our manager, players and supporters. Shame on you.

  6. We need to move on from Ange, his style of football ( as we are currently experiencing with Rodgers) is very boring, and one dimensional. Go for the special one, Celtic like his time at Inter Milian could be his redemption arch. He’s has a lifetime of experience, UEFA Champions League winner, UEFA Europa League winner, Premiership title winner as well as many other acholites and he could wide up the huns in a way that only the special one would know how.

  7. John – Rodgers doesn’t buy players and has little say in who the Board bring in. His job is to manage and coach the team/individual players and this nonsense about him wasting £20m on Idah and Engels is just that.
The Board buy players and that’s down to Nicholson & his team including Tisdale who goes under the grand titie of ‘Head of Operations’.
His job is overseeing talent identification and development through the academy and recruitment, aligning with the club’s strategy to develop Champions League-level players, improving operational processes, working with analytics functions, and ensuring the club’s football operations support high-level performance. He is not a direct liaison between the manager and the board but is a key figure in the football operations team, focusing on scouting, transfer succession planning, and the recruitment of coaches … allegedly!

  8. Ok, let’s look at it this way. If you, as an “elite” coach can have any job you want, why would you take the one in Scotland where you have no control over the players you sign?

  9. Obviously people among the anti-Celtic media have done a lousy job of thinking this through!
But why do you think Shawn Maloney was brought back to Celtic at the end of last season?
He’s clearly the planned successor to Rodgers at the end of this season, just as KT is obviously back to take over the captaincy from Callum McGregor when he retires!
Ange is not returning to Paradise! Count on that!
