Marco Tilio reminding us of his talent, but does he have a future at Celtic?

Marco Tilio remember him? The Australian winger signed from Melbourne City back in summer 2023.
The winger arrived with a great pedigree, and his £2 million transfer fee was the record sum received by an A League side. A young, exciting attacking player and Aussie international he seemed to tick all the Celtic boxes but that was BB – before Brendan.
Marco picked up an injury on international duty just after signing for Celtic
Frustratingly he picked up an injury on international duty with Australia just after signing for Celtic and the injury ruled him out for a considerable period of Brendan’s first season back at the club. Marco failed to make any sort of impact in Glasgow making only a couple of first team appearances before being shipped back out on loan to Melbourne City, where he has remained ever since.

Marco reminded us recently of his talent as clips of him scoring a fine goal for Melbourne surfaced online. He clearly feels at home in his native land, but he still has a few years remaining on his Celtic deal, so we can only wonder if he still has any ambition of making the breakthrough in Glasgow, or more importantly Brendan Rodgers sees him in his plans going forward.

Celtic looking for a new winger this summer
It’s no secret that we are in need of another option in the wide areas, but it remains to be seen if Tilio will get the chance to plug that gap or if Brendan is looking at other targets. Brendan had the good grace to welcome all the new signing in the summer of 2023 and was happy to give them all a chance in training and in matches. That injury limited Marco’s opportunity but it could well be that Brendan has already seen enough.

This summers transfer activity will surely answer that question but it seems a long shot that Marco Tilio is going to make his way back into the Celtic side.
