Q: Cameron, you and the players must feel the team’s in a good place at the minute?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, no, I think we are. I think, the squad are in a good place and is putting in good performances. For us, it’s about trying to continue that as long as we can and maintain our levels in each and every game.”

Q: Games keep coming thick and fast, domestic games, and now European games are going to come up. How demanding is that?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “It’s always a challenge, I think. But to be fair, up here, I think we’ve got the squad to deal with that challenge. We’ve got a lot of good players, some that are playing, some that aren’t. Everyone’s ready to step in when they need to and bring the team energy when needed.”

Q: We were speaking to Auston after the St Mirren game, and he was saying how much of a driver it is of him to be representing the United States at the World Cup and hopefully alongside you. What’s your take on that?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “It’s definitely a goal. It’s one of those things that, you’re aware is coming up, but it’s still quite far away. So, I think he and I both know we’ve got to perform here first before getting that opportunity. And that’s what we’re focused on.”

Q: How do you feel your partnership when you are together is getting on?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, good. I always say defensive partnerships need time to kind of develop and kind of grow that understanding. But we’ve played a fair few games together now. And I think we’re getting there in terms of knowing each other’s games and knowing how each other are going to react to certain situations. And that can only help.”

Q: Was Saturday quite a satisfying win, just given the fact that the conditions were bad, the pitch wasn’t great. But you guys were able to just show what you’ve been able to show for most of the season. You played some good football, and it worked out?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, I think so. I think as a group, I think we kind of enjoy them, these matches. The pitch wasn’t great. It was obviously freezing up there but, I think we see it as an opportunity for us to kind of show how good we are and show we can do it, no matter what the conditions are.”

Q: “It’s all about just showing that same mentality tomorrow night when you go to Dens Park?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, 100 per cent. I think, every away game, especially this time of the year, is always a challenge. So, again, we know we’re going to have to be professional in our performance and perform at a high level to get the three points.”

Q: How have you found this recent schedule? There’s been a lot of talk about the lack of winter break, obviously, with the European games now moving into January. Did it feel, over the previous Christmas period, you had a bit of light at the end of the tunnel because you knew you had a couple of weeks off? And now you don’t have that. Is the mindset a bit different?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “For me personally, I grew up in England. I played in the Championship down there where there’s no winter break. So, for me, it’s not too uncommon. Actually, it’s difficult. It’s definitely demanding physically and mentally. But I kind of enjoy the game coming thick and fast and you kind of get in a rhythm of just playing every game and yeah, go from there.”

Q: Is that you feeling, because of that, you’re feeling as strong as you have done for a while. Because, obviously, you had a toe issue at the start of the season and a few issues in the previous season or two. Do you feel like you’re right in the groove now?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, I think so. To be fair, if I’ve just come back from an injury, I feel like I’m pretty well prepared to come in and play. But, like you said, it definitely helps when you get a rhythm of games under your belt and the games, you start feeling the flow of stuff. And, yeah, I think performance definitely picked up at that point.”

Q: And the team as well, obviously, you’ve bounced back from that one defeat you had as well. Is it easy to get back into the rhythm when you do bounce back so quickly just to start again, start another run? Is that their mindset?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, 100 per cent. Obviously, that game was massively disappointing for us. But, as a group, we always knew that we could bounce back from it. And, like I said, the last few games, I think we showed we have that mentality to bounce back from tough situations. Which, to be fair, there haven’t been many of them this season. But, you definitely need to know that when they do come along, you can bounce back and that’s what we’ve shown.”

Q: As usual, with this time of year, there always is a bit of speculation. Earlier on this month, you’d been linked with Bayer Leverkusen, and they’d been noted with an interest in you. Is that the type of thing you’d taken any notice of at all?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “For me, not really, to be honest, because there’s always going to be talks in the papers and stuff like that. But first of all, a lot of stuff you read is not always true. And for me, as long as I’m here, I’m prepared to play each game to the best that I can.”

Q: Is that the thing? Is it quite easy to just focus on what’s happening on the pitch when you’re always chasing victories, chasing trophies and success at this club?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, 100 per cent it definitely is. And the amount of games you’ve had, it’s kind of no time to think about anything else. It’s game, recovery, rest, repeat. So that’s kind of been the rhythm I’ve been in.”

Q: Do you almost get flattered, like any other player, if you get linked to another club?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, no, it’s always nice to know that people are kind of taking notes of your performances. But again, like I was saying, you never really know how true it is when you just read it on the paper or on a website or anything like that.”

Q: Since the foot injury, since you’ve come back, have you had to do anything different in training to kind of manage that?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, not really. The toe was kind of a difficult one because I played with it for a few games and it just kind of got too painful to carry on and kind of needed that rest time. But it also recovers fairly slowly. So, when I first come back from it, I was still in a bit of pain and kind of got some special inner soles and boots and that made it, which helped it along the way. But at this point now, it pretty much was back to normal. I’m still aware of it, but no real pain.”

Q: And I was talking earlier about the big games, a couple of more domestic games and big European matches coming up. How important is it to continue that momentum going into them?

Cameron Carter-Vickers: “Yeah, 100 per cent. Like I was saying earlier, for us, I think right now we’re performing at a really good level and it’s just about maintaining that level and trying to obviously improve and get better. But also just knowing that we’ve got to be consistent in our work day in, and day out and that will show in the games.
