‘Great signing’, Celtic complete signing of ex-Man City and Leicester striker

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year deal. The Scottish Champions have endured a fairly torrid month on the transfer front but have signed the 28-year-old, who was released from his contract by La Liga side Sevilla last night.

Celtic sold Adam Idah in a £7m deal to Swansea but missed out on Kasper Dolberg, who was earmarked as his replacement. The Dane made a €10m switch to Ajax earlier today.

In a statement released on the Celtic website, Rodgers stated that the striker could be a great signing for the club.

“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate.

“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”

  1. Martin Blackshaw on

Let’s just wait and see! According to one report I read today on this player, he scored 1 goal in 15 starts for Sevilla, which is why he was sent out on loan. The same report states that the fans at his loan club, Middlesbrough, were glad to see th abck of him, describing him as “overweight and not very good.”

Maybe Brendan can turn his career around and get him firing on all cylinders again, but it’s a big maybe. I certainly hope so, for the fans’ sake. I’m always wary of recruitment made out of desperation, especially when the player recruited has previously rejected a loan move to his new club.

  2. You can’t fault Rodgers trying to instill confidence and belief in our only striker but you’ve got to ask why Seville were happy to rip up his contract just to get shut of him, also I saw him play a lot in England and he’s just not got much control of a football, so low after this window

    • Be honest, you didn’t see him play “a lot” in England! You, like most Celtic fans saw the odd clip!
I suggest we look at some YouTube videos of the guy. Sure, he’s been around. But we’re talking Scotland here! We needed a striker and we got one. We didn’t get much this window! Let’s pray we hit a jackpot here!
      Hail Hail
      Stay positive!

  3. Out of the frying pan (Idah) into the fire (Iheanacho)! What a stupid transfer. I am almost 100% certain Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada will be much better than this overweight has been that no one wants. Terrible!

  4. It’s a signing, don’t know about great.
Player well past his prime, couldn’t buy a goal in Spain.
That’s what you get when you’re knocked out of Champions League.

Could and should have picked up a striker before the qualifier, only guys wanting to reignite their faltering career will come for Europa League.
Hell some would rather take half the wage we would offer to go to Charlton and not have to deal with the Desmond dumpster fire.

Big ask for a striker to come into a system that is all about passing backwards rather than putting a ba into the box.

  5. I quote BR : “he can be a graet signing for us”
I am not sure but there is doubt in that sentence, right ?

  6. Going by the comments this is happy clappy central ,,,,,Rodgers is gonna work his magic ,,,,,ffs how gulllible have you lot become ,,,did he work his magic with any other player here ,,,,,not even the weans who are running out the door
Yet again he’s proved he has fk all talent at spotting players this dud was run out out of middlesborugh read their forums ,no wonder the club loves the customers ,,,,,,no wonder we didn’t fkn players when it looks like the elite fraud only knows players he worked with in the past

even sevilla tore up the remainder of his contract to get him off the books

  7. The board have got be sacked. I emailed them about the buy back ticket scheme, and they’ve just ignored my email.

The board are disgrace. I won’t be putting my money into the club. We need new directors that are on the fans side, and German equivalent ticket pricing, and the Jock Stein Stand renovated and turned into a rail seating section for atmosphere.

We’ve stood still. Celtic is a toxic brand right now and it’s all down to Peter LIEWELL and NICK-ALL-THE-MONEY-SON.

Sack them. GET THEM OUT NOW!
