Celtic FC Women drop out of Title Race – Time to look at Causes and Cures

“An extremely rich sugar daddy”

A word on finances. Glasgow City have a corporate merchant bank backer which is a result of them being a female only football club, while theRangers Women costs, as I understand it, are allegedly being underwritten by a wealthy supporter of theRangers, rather than the club itself. He was described to me as “an extremely rich sugar daddy”. Happy to clarify if that is not the case.

Both Glasgow City and theRangers Women reacted to Celtic’s title triumph last summer by being active and ambitious in the transfer market last summer while Celtic gambled on allowing Elena Sadiku (flushed with title glory) to see what she could do in the window.

Curious observation on POTY awards handed out on Sunday

Nothing very much was the answer, with the notable exception being Emma Lawton who won the PFA Scotland’s Women’s Player of the Year on Sunday night – voted for by rival players in the SPFL as the best player in the league – yet in the various Celtic FC awards Emma was totally overlooked.  What does that say to you?

The award one voted for by the support is always a complete lottery as the knowledge of the women’s team is low among the wider support. Going forward the club should maybe look at restricting the vote on this to season ticket holders for the Celtic FC Women matches.

  1. Hayes a very big loss, great defender and her goals must have been worth
six points at least. I didn’t think she looked too happy before she left.
something happened to cause this. She was a big fan like the rest of
her family. She was pretty much irriplaceable, get her back

  2. RPM Celtic fan on

Cant argue with any of this article apart from Fran Alonso being unemployed , he’s been managing in Spain for nearly a year i think , there’s lots of problems in the women’s side but sorry to say the main one is the fantasist that is Elena Sadiku , Hail hail

    • Took my granddaughter to the Chelsea game and the Glasgow derby in November, and have watched a few other games. Talking to some of the players’ parents, I also heard that The Ghirls were expected to take the train down for the return WCL game against Chelsea and also that the players, who train 6 days a week, have to buy their own boots, out of their own pockets, which I find incredible in a professional league with not particularly high salaries!
If Celtic want to, they easily have the financial resources to make The Ghirls as dominant a force in the Scottish women’s game as their male counterparts … but right now, it is becoming increasingly difficult to take the club’s commitment to a women’s team seriously!
