Celtic decision not to sign winger justified after Jocelin Ta Bi update

Celtic were heavily linked with Ivorian winger Jocelin Ta Bi in the January window but no deal was forthcoming. After hearing criticism from supporters for spending money in Israel, Ta Bi’s move to Celtic Park collapsed despite agreement in principle between the clubs and player. Many suspected that it was Celtic’s delay to do business but it transpired that the player had an issue raised at the medical stage, an injury that would require surgery.

Sunderland made a move for the 21-year-old and Ta Bi made his Premier League debut in a 3-1 defeat to Fulham. The winger was withdrawn before half time but the Black Cats’ manager, Regis Le Bris provided an injury update for his squad, confirming that the January signing was facing a period on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

“Jocelin might be the same position as Romaine, with a different injury.

“He might need surgery so weeks, months. It’s still a bit early as well.”

Celtic’s transfer business has been rightfully criticised due to the seeming lack of direction and organisation. This was an issue raised by Brendan Rodgers along with his predecessors. It is clear that the club need to implement a model for aggressive recruitment in order to compete in Europe and continue the dominance of Scottish football.

No doubt the player will make a full recovery and go on to be an impressive player for Sunderland.
