French Sports journalist Sébastien Vidal, has claimed on social media that Celtic are ‘monitoring the situation closely’ following Crystal Palace decision to place former Celt Odsonne Edouard on the transfer list.

Vidal is a French football author and journalist, co-founder of Weekend Sports, and appears a regular voice in modern French sports media. So there could well be some credence to this report.
Palace’s decision to list Edouard was also reported earlier today by The Athletic – so he’s already got half his story right, at least.

‘Striker Odsonne Edouard, winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and midfielder Naouirou Ahamada are not part of Palace’s plans and will be available if deals can be agreed.’

Odsonne Edouard’s time at Celtic Park is fondly remembered by most for his time at Celtic, although there were certainly some question marks surrounding his investment in the club prior to him leaving to join Palace.
Signed initially on loan from PSG in 2017 before making the move permanent for a then-record £9 million, Edouard quickly became a talisman under Brendan Rodgers. He scored 86 goals in 179 appearances, delivering some memorable moments, notably his double in the 2019 Scottish Cup Final that secured the treble Treble. Calm under pressure, decent enough in front of goal, and often rising to the big occasion, Edouard contributed to his place in Celtic’s recent history before departing in 2021.

His £14 million move to Crystal Palace was seen as the natural next step for a player looking to prove himself in the Premier League. While he began brightly, including a brace on debut against Spurs, his time in South London has been uneven. Despite flashes of quality, he’s never quite nailed down a consistent starting role, and has often been overshadowed by Palace’s other attacking options. With just 18 league goals (21 in total) across three seasons, Palace’s decision to place him on the transfer list this summer signals the end of a chapter that possibly promised more than it delivered.

Now 27, and still in his prime, Edouard may view a return to Celtic Park as a chance to recapture his best form under a manager he knows well. With Champions League football on offer and a squad in need of attacking reinforcement, the move makes sense on paper.
From the supporters’ side, there’s a strong case to believe Edouard would be welcomed back. If the net bulges early, perceptions around his commitment towards the end of his time at Celtic may quickly evaporate, and his contributions to one of the club’s most successful periods in modern history are a good foundation from which to rebuild. That said, some may view a return with cautious optimism, concerned about whether his hunger matches the ambition of the current side.
Odsonne Edouard was adored by the Celtic support. What a song he had!
Ultimately, should the finances align, and if Edouard himself is motivated for the challenge, this reunion could be mutually beneficial.
Celtic would gain a proven domestic performer with European experience, and Edouard would get the platform to reignite a career that has stalled somewhat in England.

They say you should never go back. Edouard had his day at Celtic and has pretty much failed to impress at other clubs since he left. Celtic don’t want to be buying that kind of baggage, they need a striker who is proven and in hot form right now. The people employed by the club to ensure that happens are failing miserably in their job, including Nicholson. Like other fans, I’m in favour of a Board clearout and some new people in charge, people who know what they’re doing and can deliver the quality Brendan has repeatedly said he needs this window.
Not a chance. He’ll go elsewhere for far more wages than back here, and not blink. I don’t grudge him, but I get fed up of these BS news sites making up garbage. BR may well think it would be nice as an option to have Eddie back here, but it takes two to Tango and the other guy would rather Foxtrot off to another EPL club instead. Nes pas?
Or something.
…”but I get fed up of these BS news sites making up garbage.”
Do you mean The Celtic Star or the French journalist reporting on it?
We have reported on that and that’s all. Celtic have already brought a player back to the club from the Premier League who had to take a substantial cut in wages. It’s rare but it happens.
Edouard will accept the best offer based on his own priorities. It’s certainly worth reporting is it not?
David, honestly you would think with the rampant transfer speculation surrounding Celtic each day that we have to treat every single tenuous lead with baited breath – that’s nonsense. You and I both know that.
For avoidance of doubt, the Celtic Star is my go to site each day for up to date news and information, so you’ll be pleased to know my passing objective critique (lol) was aimed at the other guys, whom you were merely quoting and extrapolating.
I still find it hard to believe that Odsonne would return to Glasgow. He was extremely keen to leave, and will surely pick up a gig in England or France for more money and better weather which is what he always wanted. I just think it’s a non story.
In comparison, Tierney was an exceptional case in exceptional circumstances, with a player who bleeds green and white.
PS I also suspect that we are all frustratedly suffering from “transfer fatigue” ..!!!
Just an Ordinary Bhoy makes a good point about the Schlupp deal last season with Palace happy for Celtic to play a part of his wages (50%) to see out his contract. That was for half a season, for Edouard it would be for a season with Celtic thereafter able to pick up the player (if successful) without a fee. He may have better financial options but maybe not. At 27 he’s like KT, going into his peak years. But he’s lost his way in England and may fancy working with Rodgers again. HH
NO! A thousand times no! We went guys on the way up…not in the way down.
Never go back – never take back.
