Taylor predicts big season from ‘massive player’ Moi Elyounoussi

GREG TAYLOR has insisted that loan star Moi Elyounoussi will be a massive player in the hunt for the club’s 10th successive title in a row. The Norwegian returned on a season long loan from Southampton and started two out of the three friendlies in France, scoring an impressive goal from the bench against Lyon. His left-sided colleague, Taylor, believes that the connection between the left back, McGregor and Elyounoussi will reap rewards for Neil Lennon’s side.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Taylor points to the understanding and experience from the pre-season sessions that have allowed the trio to operate on a more familiar basis – which Taylor is enjoying.

“There’s a good understanding there and we’ve developed that over the last few weeks in pre-season. Hopefully that goes from strength to strength. I’m certainly enjoying it and I think the other two lads are as well.”

The left-back joined from Killie last summer but struggled to really force his way into the team until after new year. Taylor made his debut at home to St Mirren and appeared a competent option but it wasn’t until January that Taylor became a mainstay in the Hoops starting XI.

The period following the Winter break saw Celtic drop just two points domestically with a draw at Livingston before Coronavirus forced the Scottish Premiership league to be curtailed. This period was also the time that Elyounoussi was returning from injury.

Taylor praised Elyounoussi’s movement and predicted that he will play a big part in the upcoming season.

“Moi’s movement is top-class. I think he’ll play a massive part this season and be a massive player for us. I certainly enjoy having him in front of me and I think the boys certainly enjoy having him in the team. He scored again the other night and hopefully he can continue doing that.”

Elyounoussi played 20 times for the Scottish Champions, scoring 7 and assisting 6 for Lennon’s side and was highly rated despite injuries impacting his game time. A move to Celtic makes sense as he knows the club, his teammates and the manager as well as being very aware of what the club can potentially win next season.
