Celtic need two strikers not one, options are Bowie, Wilson and Bamba

Is Bowie worth £6.5 million? It’s a no from me. There’s better value options out there for our immediate needs, such as Wilson and Bamba…

One name who’s been mentioned more than a few times on the transfer rumour mill is that of Kieron Bowie of Hibs, who reportedly carries a massive price tag of £6.5 million.

Some supporters are keen for the club to swoop for the young striker, but is he really worth the £6.5 million being demanded by the Easter Road side?

Hibs are well within their rights to ask what they want for their players, but for me, I wouldn’t justify sanctioning that sort of cash for a player who offers nothing more than potential.

I’ve seen Bowie close up on a few occasions, and whilst he’s impressed, he’s not exactly stood out and made me think that the club should be doing everything in their power to bring him to Celtic Park.

Let’s look at the facts. Bowie has scored eight in 27 appearances this season with an overall record of 14 goals in 49 appearances for the Hibees. His total career stats are 38 goal in 173 appearances, not exactly that of the out and out striker we are craving.

He’s a boisterous young player. He gives his all and is technically good, but he’s not what you would call a proven striker, and that is exactly what we are needing as a matter of urgency at this particular moment.

Guys like Callum Wilson and Mohamed Bamba, who have been linked with the club in recent days boast a much more impressive strike rate than Bowie, having done so at a higher level, but some of our supporters don’t want them near the side. It’s all about opinions and ours are merely a side show, it’s going to come down to Martin O’Neill making the final decision.

Celtic needs someone with experience of putting the ball in the net on a regular basis. Someone who can step straight into the side and convert the majority of the chances we create, and for me, Bowie isn’t that player, not at this moment in time, and especially not for the reported fee.

By all means go after Bowie in the summer, but for now what we need is a seasoned target man. Of if we’re signing him this month, bring in someone like Wilson alongside him. It’s all about winning the title and an experienced goalscorer is a must. Wilson would be for now, Bowie would be for the future.  Bamba is a decent third option.

And remember we don’t just have Kyogo to replace, we also sold Adam Idah without a replacement, so two signings would be far from an unreasonable demand from a support that has in the most lost faith entirely in this Celtic Board.

Bamba has scored one goal in 15 league games this season. Sorry not sure what I’m missing here. On highlights I’ve seen he looks slow and cumbersome. But yeh. Opinions. Let MON be the judge.

  2. Bowie has 1 goal every 3 games this season playing for Hibs and is playing regularly, and has been involved in the international set up, and even got some European games time. Young. Fit. Scoring. In any league in Europe a team will want upward of £5m for that and Hibs will be no different even if the “Celtic tax” is added.

Wilson and Bamba might have bigger pedigrees on paper but they are either always injured or not scoring at all.

If it was a straight choice between these 3 strikers then Bowie would be a no-brainer. I just can’t see the appeal in taking either of the other players. Bowie has all the upside, and room to grow in a team providing chance after chance.
