Martin O’Neill suffered his first setback as Celtic’s interim manager as his side fell 3-1 in Herning, with Martin Erlic, Mikel Gogorza and Franculino Dju on target before Reo Hatate netted a consolation from the penalty spot late on.
After the game, McGregor reflected on he and his teammates display at the MCH Arena. “The goals, we conceded three goals in six or seven minutes just before half-time,” he told TNT Sports.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game. They are a good side, big physical boys. I thought the first half was level, and then the quick goals took the game away from us. I was just speaking at half-time, just trying to get back into the game step-by-step. To be fair, the boys did that.
“A chance at 3-1 to make it 3-2 with five minutes to go might have been a bit different. You have to take your medicine; they are a good team. The goals we conceded were poor goals, so you have to accept that.”

McGregor added: “We know where we are. It’s a young squad with new players, and the only way you get experience is by doing it on the pitch and coming through it and making yourself stronger and more experienced.”
“We know where we are, we know where we want to get to. This club you want to keep pushing and keep being as successful as you can, but we have to understand the moment that we’re in, and it will take a bit of time.”

Celtic now have to dust themselves down in preparation for Sunday’s crucial Scottish Premiership encounter against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. Going by O’Neill’s comments post-match, this may well be his final game in charge as interim boss, so let’s hope he gets the send-off he deserves with three absolutely vital points.
